Fabian NiciezaMeet the Guests is where we showcase the creators that you may see at your local comic convention. This time around we feature writer Fabian Nicieza.

This is the time to be immodest. What work are you probably best known for?

Now, it’s co-creating Deadpool and fan-casting Ryan Reynolds in the 2004 issue of Cable & Deadpool #2.

Before, it was for writing X-Men, X-Force, New Warriors, Gambit, Thunderbolts, Robin, etc.

Do you charge for autographs?

I charge for certain titles, currently any issue of Deadpool or Deadpool merchandise, Cable & Deadpool, Cable, X-Men and X-Force.

All other issues I’ve written are free.

Do you charge for photos?

No charge for photos, but I don’t guarantee my ugly mug won’t break your phone camera.

What types of other things do you usually have for sale at your table?

I sell an original Deadpool print with art by Kevin Maguire where I write abusive dialogue for you… or is that at you?

I also have a limited quantity of rare, original 1991 X-Force promotional posters for sale.

Do you have any particularly funny/interesting/weird convention story to tell?

Too many over 30 years to count, but recently in Miami, I was reunited with a now-grown mom who happened to be a soccer player I coached back in 1980 when she was 10 years old!

What is the weirdest/coolest thing that you have been asked to sign?

Body parts tend to rank up there, but anytime I get to participate in a large jam signing piece, that’s always special, to see your name among so many industry legends and current professionals is always rewarding.

Who were you excited to meet at a con? (Either as an attendee or guest.)

I have to be honest, I rarely get to see or spend time with “celebrity” guests. My most valued “celebrity meets,” like William Shatner, James Cameron, or Will Smith, have been done as part of my business life rather than conventions.

Any Con Pet Peeves?

My biggest con pet peeves tend to be more mundane, like is the con providing me water or sending volunteers to see if I need anything? Are they well organized in terms of line management and informing attendees about panel times, charging fees, etc.
